Fire Damper in Bangladesh
Essential fire protection products for HVAC systems. Fire dampers prevent the spread of fire through ventilation ducts to nearby fire-resistance rated walls and floors. UL/FM approved fire dampers with professional installation throughout Bangladesh.

What is a Fire Damper?
Fire dampers are one of the most important fire protection products extensively used in HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) ducts to stop or prevent the spread of fire through the ducts to nearby fire-resistance rated walls and floors.
In normal conditions, fire dampers are inert, simply permitting the flow of air through them. But when a fire breaks out, they get activated. They shut down the duct passage, blocking the duct and resisting flow of fire or smoke from one area to another for a specified time. This allows the occupants to escape from the risk area.
Critical Life Safety Component
Fire and smoke dampers are similar to fire dampers when it comes to prevention or stoppage of spreading smoke inside the ducts as well as fire resistance ratings. They are critical components in maintaining compartmentalization during a fire.
How Fire Dampers Work
Temperature-Activated System
A fire damper starts working when fire occurs in a room and the temperature starts to rise to about 165 degrees Fahrenheit from the normal temperature. The fusible link attached to the damper starts to melt at this temperature, causing the damper's door to shut down.
Higher Temperature Areas: In areas where the normal temperature is comparatively higher, a higher degree fusible link should be attached to the damper. Fusible links used at these areas would start to melt at a temperature about 212°F.
By understanding how a fire damper works, you can have a better knowledge of why repairing and inspecting fire dampers are so strictly encouraged. It takes only about 30 seconds for a small fire to grow and become a major fire. By stopping or blocking the routes of flames, the fire will be restricted to one specific location.
Types of Fire Dampers
Static Fire Damper
Static fire dampers are placed in horizontal barriers where the HVAC system fan will stop working in case of a fire risk.
Key Features:
- Installed in horizontal barriers
- Curtain-like design
- Falls shut due to gravity
- Works when HVAC fan stops
Dynamic Fire Damper
Dynamic fire dampers are placed in vertical barriers where the HVAC system fan will continue working during a fire risk.
Key Features:
- Installed in vertical barriers
- Spring-loaded design
- Springs shut against air pressure
- Works with HVAC fan running
Benefits of Fire Dampers
Fire Containment
Restricts fire to one specific location by blocking flame routes
Smoke Prevention
Prevents smoke from spreading through ventilation systems
Evacuation Time
Provides crucial time for occupants to escape safely
Code Compliance
Meets building safety codes and fire protection requirements
Automatic Operation
Works automatically without manual intervention during fires
Compartmentalization
Maintains fire-rated integrity of walls and floors
Installation Requirements
Fire dampers must be installed in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and local building codes. Key installation requirements include:
Location Requirements
- Fire-rated walls and floors
- Where ducts penetrate fire barriers
- At regular intervals in long duct runs
- Connection points between buildings
- HVAC equipment rooms
Installation Standards
- UL/FM approved dampers required
- Access doors for inspection
- Proper clearances maintained
- Correct orientation verified
- Testing after installation
Maintenance and Testing
Regular Inspection Critical
Ensuring proper operation when needed
Fire dampers require regular inspection and maintenance to ensure they will function properly during a fire emergency. Repairing and inspecting fire dampers are strictly encouraged because:
Inspection Schedule
- One year after installation
- Every 4 years for commercial buildings
- Every 6 years for hospitals
- After any fire incident
Testing Requirements
- Visual inspection of damper
- Operational testing
- Fusible link verification
- Documentation of results
Applications Across Bangladesh
Fire dampers are essential in various facilities with HVAC systems:
Commercial Buildings
Hospitals
Hotels
Shopping Malls
Educational Institutions
Industrial Facilities
Data Centers
Government Buildings
Residential Complexes
Warehouses
Office Towers
Manufacturing Plants
