How to Use a Fire Extinguisher
Remember the PASS technique when using a fire extinguisher:
Pull the Pin
Check that the safety pin is not bent. Ensure you remain a safe distance from the fire and remove the safety pin, this will break the tamper seal.
Aim at the Base
Do not hold the horn unless it's frost-free, as it becomes extremely cold. For flammable liquids, aim at the base and move across. For electrical fires, switch off power if safe and direct the hose straight at the fire.
Squeeze the Lever
Squeeze the lever slowly to begin discharging. As the fire diminishes, carefully move closer. Note that extinguishers have a very short discharge time.
Sweep Side to Side
Ensure all the fire has been extinguished as re-ignition is possible. Continue sweeping until the fire is completely out.
